Somfy Sonesse 28 WireFree RTS Li-Ion Blind Motor
- Wi-Fi
Verified September 2026
The pro-grade option UK blind shops fit as standard: a near-silent 1.1Nm rechargeable tube motor for roller and Roman blinds, fitting tubes with at least a 26.6mm internal diameter and rated for up to 7kg of blind and fabric. The 2,600mAh Li-ion cell typically lasts around a year between top-ups via the magnetic charging lead — no mains wiring. It talks Somfy's 433MHz RTS radio, so you'll need a TaHoma Switch hub (~£99) for HA control via Overkiz — RTS blinds still don't report position back. This is trade hardware fitted through a blind maker, not a DIY retrofit kit like SwitchBot or Aqara's curtain motors.
In Home Assistant
| Control | Type | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Open/close/stop | Service | Sends the RTS up/down/stop command; no set-position service exists since the motor never reports position. |
| Stop (my position) | Service | Sent while the blind is moving, this triggers the same memorized 'my' preset position as pressing the physical RTS remote's my button — HA has no dedicated service for it. |
| State | Attribute | Reports open/closed/unknown only, never a percentage; stays unknown after HA restarts or after the blind is moved from the physical remote, since RTS gives no feedback either way. |
| Template cover | Helper entity | Recommended companion entity in optimistic mode that assumes the last HA-issued command reached its target, giving automations and scenes a state to key off of. |
| Developer Mode token | One-time cloud setup | Generated from the TaHoma by Somfy app and entered during the Overkiz config flow; a cloud-account action required once so all subsequent runtime control can be local. |
Overkiz exposes the RTS tube motor as a plain cover entity with only open/close/stop — no set-position slider — and because RTS is one-way, the entity's state sits at unknown after any command rather than showing a percentage. Local control needs a one-time cloud step before it works at all: Developer Mode must be switched on from the TaHoma by Somfy app to mint the auth token HA's config flow asks for; every request after that runs on the LAN. Because RTS gateways get no state callbacks, Overkiz backs its cloud poll off to hourly for RTS-only setups rather than treating the silence as an error. The documented workaround for a usable position in dashboards/automations is pairing the raw cover with a template cover (optimistic mode) that assumes the last commanded position was reached.
