At £169.99-£269.99 by size it undercuts professional motorised made-to-measure blinds, which typically run £300-£600+ per window fitted in the UK. It's genuinely DIY: cut the fabric to width with the included tool, fit the brackets, done in under an hour — no electrician needed. Runs on two swappable 18650 batteries good for around eight months per charge, with an optional solar panel accessory for hands-off top-ups on a bright-enough window. Local Bluetooth to HA works hub-free; add a SwitchBot Hub 2 or Hub 3 only if you want Matter (for Apple Home/Alexa/Google) or remote access — a plain Hub Mini without Matter support won't add Matter.

The native switchbot integration (direct Bluetooth, no hub) exposes a single cover entity with position control only (no tilt), and position reads are inverted from what you'd expect — 20% or below counts as "open," above that as "closed." In default Active Bluetooth mode it should auto-discover; Passive mode can't be found via local BLE scan at all and needs a SwitchBot cloud sign-in during setup instead. Add a SwitchBot Hub 2 or Hub 3 and the shade also shows up as a Matter cover entity through the switchbot_matter integration (SwitchBot Matter brand, added in HA 2025.6), which is local push and works alongside — not instead of — the Bluetooth path. Since it's a solid roller shade rather than sheer curtain, a sun-elevation automation nudging it to a partial position (e.g. 30%) at solar noon gives glare control that a simple open/closed automation can't.
