Zemismart Zigbee Rechargeable Roller Blind Motor (17/25/28mm)
- Zigbee
Verified September 2026
The tinkerer's budget pick: a rechargeable tubular motor that slides inside a 17–28mm roller tube, pairs to Zigbee2MQTT with your own dongle and skips Tuya's cloud entirely. It's rated for shades up to 2kg and 2m wide, and the 800mAh battery is good for roughly three months between USB charges — plan on unclipping the tube periodically. Eve MotionBlinds and SwitchBot Curtain are more polished and better supported out of the box, but both cost noticeably more and neither motorises an existing roller blind this cheaply. Go in expecting a budget Tuya device: manual converter setup, drifting position reporting, and rougher fit and finish than the pricier alternatives.
In Home Assistant
| Control | Type | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Position | Cover (0-100) | Target/actual roller position, driven by a Tuya datapoint rather than physical encoder feedback — accuracy degrades with use and needs periodic limit recalibration. |
| Reverse direction | Select | Corrects a motor installed to spin the opposite way; changing it also flips which physical end is treated as the upper calibration limit. |
| Motion state | Sensor | Reports live opening/closing/stopped state — usable to detect a stalled or jammed blind if it stays in motion past the calibrated travel time. |
| Calibration limits | Config | Sets the physical travel boundaries via Tuya datapoints; must be re-run after any reverse-direction change or after the motor slips on the tube. |
| Battery | Sensor (%) | Battery level of the rechargeable motor pack, reported over the same Tuya cluster as the cover controls. |
Many of these ship on a newer TS0601 board variant that isn't in Zigbee2MQTT's stock converter set — you have to drop Zemismart's external converter into Z2M's external_converters folder before it exposes anything past a bare Tuya cluster, and the equivalent ZHA quirk is reported as less consistently reliable. Position and the moving-state field come from Tuya datapoints rather than an encoder, so real position drifts from the reported value after repeated moves until you re-run the upper/lower limit calibration. Toggling reverse direction to correct a motor installed backwards also swaps which end the limits are measured from, so a direction flip needs a full recalibration pass, not just a re-toggle.
