Our verdict

The cheapest way into battery outdoor cameras from a big brand: 1080p, infrared night vision, two-way audio, dual-zone motion detection and a claimed two-year battery on AA lithium cells, at about £65 for an add-on camera. It needs a Blink Sync Module (included in kits), and cloud clip storage needs a Blink subscription. Home Assistant's Blink integration is cloud-polled and does not offer live viewing, only snapshots you must request, so do not buy this as a Home Assistant camera. It is a decent doorstep deterrent for the price.

What can Home Assistant control on the Blink Outdoor 4?

The core blink integration is cloud-polled: each camera becomes an entity, but there is no live view, the camera image is a snapshot refreshed only when a trigger-camera action is called, and motion events fire only while the sync module is armed. Arming is system-wide; arm-home is not implemented. 2FA login can be fragile after Blink backend changes. Outdoor 4 is not named explicitly in HA's docs.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Blink Outdoor 4 work with Home Assistant locally?
Partly. The Blink Outdoor 4 connects to Home Assistant through the manufacturer's cloud integration (blink), which relies on the Blink cloud. It works in Home Assistant, but commands go via the internet and stop working during an outage of your connection or the Blink service.
Which protocol does the Blink Outdoor 4 use, and do I need a hub?
The Blink Outdoor 4 uses Wi-Fi. To pair it with Home Assistant you need no hub — it joins your Wi-Fi network directly. Blink's own hub is not required when you integrate through the manufacturer's cloud integration (blink).
