Our verdict

The clearest recommendation in this batch for a Home Assistant user who wants wired cameras without the cloud: an 8-channel PoE NVR with four RLC-810A 4K cameras and a 2 TB drive, with detection features that Reolink says run without uploads or subscriptions. The reason to pick it over similar kits is Home Assistant's native reolink integration, which lists both the RLC-810A and the RLN8-410 NVR family as tested. The catches: the 4K streams are H.265 and often will not play in a browser or the Companion app (use the default Fluent H.264 stream), and Reolink publishes conflicting figures for the camera's IP rating and microSD limit on the same page. The article's link does not say which bundle it points to, so confirm you are buying the 4-camera RLK8-810B4-A and not a single camera or a different kit.

What can Home Assistant control on the Reolink RLC-810A PoE System (RLK8-810B4-A)?

ControlTypeWhat it does
Camera streamsCameraFluent (H.264), Balanced and Clear streams plus snapshots per channel.
Person / vehicle / pet detectionBinary sensorAI detection sensors per channel, event-driven over ONVIF push.
Record, Push, FTP, EmailSwitchGlobal switches on the NVR plus a switch per channel.
RecordingsMedia browserBrowse NVR recordings from the Home Assistant media browser.

Native reolink integration (Local Push). It needs a local user with admin rights, firmware kept current, and these ports reachable from Home Assistant: HTTP 80, HTTPS 443, RTMP 1935, RTSP 554, ONVIF 8000 and TCP 9000. Reolink cannot push ONVIF events to an HTTPS Home Assistant URL, so give it an HTTP internal URL with the global SSL paths left empty (a reverse proxy can still handle external SSL). Through the NVR you get per-channel cameras (Fluent/Balanced/Clear streams and snapshots), AI detection binary sensors, switches, buttons and the media browser for recordings; the NVR has global Record/Push/FTP/Email switches that must both be on with the per-channel switch for a feature to be active. Limits: no two-way audio or text-to-speech through Home Assistant, 4K H.265 streams often won't play in browsers or the Companion app, and polling through an NVR is 10 s per camera.
