Ring Indoor Camera (2nd Gen)
- Wi-Fi
Verified September 2026
Only worth buying if you're already committed to Ring/Alexa — otherwise TP-Link's Tapo C210 undercuts it at around £25 (this camera is now back to its £39.99 RRP after a temporary sale) with local RTSP streaming and no subscription, while this camera's HA integration is entirely cloud-polled with no RTSP path at all. Event history needs a Ring Home subscription (£3.49/month in the UK) just to see recordings older than live view. Colour night vision is a genuine strength over the Tapo's monochrome-only IR, and the swivel privacy cover is a nice physical touch, but Home Assistant can't see or control it. Buy for ecosystem convenience, not local control.
In Home Assistant
| Control | Type | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Live view | Camera | Cloud-relayed stream; no local RTSP/ONVIF path exists for this camera. |
| Last recording | Camera | Snapshot/clip of the most recent motion event, pulled from Ring cloud storage rather than a live feed. |
| Motion detection | Switch | Toggles the camera's motion-triggered event capture on/off; the only entity that meaningfully changes the camera's behaviour on demand. |
| Privacy cover | Unsupported | The physical swivel cover has no corresponding entity — not readable, not controllable — it's twist-operated by hand only. |
| Siren | Unsupported | No siren entity is created for this device; it lacks the onboard siren hardware that Ring's outdoor stick-up cameras have. |
Unlike Ring's video doorbells, this camera exposes no entity for the physical swivel privacy cover at all — HA's ring integration has no switch or binary sensor tied to it, so the dashboard can't tell you whether it's open or closed, let alone drive it. It also won't get a siren switch, since that's gated behind stick-up-cam siren hardware the plug-in Indoor Cam doesn't have, and HA's live view has no two-way audio support at all, so talk-down only works from the Ring app itself. The one real automation lever is the shared motion-detection switch entity: flipping it off on arrival is a software stand-in for closing the camera, since the cover itself is invisible to Home Assistant.
