Our verdict

A 1080p wireless Ring camera with motion-activated spotlights, colour night vision, a siren and two-way talk, running from a Quick-Release battery pack that can be topped up by a plug-in adaptor or Ring's solar panel. At around £129 it is cheaper than the floodlight models, but you are still on 1080p, and recording needs a Ring subscription. Home Assistant gets cloud-polled events and snapshots through the ring integration only, with no RTSP. Pick it if the rest of your house is Ring; look elsewhere if you want local recording.

What can Home Assistant control on the Ring Spotlight Cam Plus Battery?

Cloud-only ring integration, as for every Ring camera: motion events, snapshots and on-demand live view relayed through Ring's servers, with no local RTSP. Battery wake behaviour means HA polling is not instant.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Ring Spotlight Cam Plus Battery work with Home Assistant locally?
Partly. The Ring Spotlight Cam Plus Battery connects to Home Assistant through the manufacturer's cloud integration (ring), which relies on the Ring cloud. It works in Home Assistant, but commands go via the internet and stop working during an outage of your connection or the Ring service.
Which protocol does the Ring Spotlight Cam Plus Battery use, and do I need a hub?
The Ring Spotlight Cam Plus Battery uses Wi-Fi. To pair it with Home Assistant you need no hub — it joins your Wi-Fi network directly. Ring's own hub is not required when you integrate through the manufacturer's cloud integration (ring).
