A 2K 4MP battery outdoor camera sold as a kit with a solar panel, with colour night vision, AI person, animal and vehicle detection, microSD storage up to 512GB and an IP65 body, at about £82. Be aware before buying for Home Assistant: TP-Link's own FAQ says the C425 does not support RTSP or ONVIF, and the HA Tapo Control component can add its entities but not video. So it is a good cheap standalone driveway camera and a poor Home Assistant camera.
What can Home Assistant control on the Tapo C425 (Battery Outdoor Camera Kit)?
Not supported by RTSP/ONVIF, so no generic camera stream. The Tapo Control HACS component can add the camera's non-video entities, but a GitHub issue reports a C425 adding entities with no video. Treat the camera as phone-app-only.

Frequently asked questions
- Does the Tapo C425 (Battery Outdoor Camera Kit) work with Home Assistant locally?
- Partly. The Tapo C425 (Battery Outdoor Camera Kit) connects to Home Assistant through a community integration installed through HACS, which relies on the TP-Link cloud. It works in Home Assistant, but commands go via the internet and stop working during an outage of your connection or the TP-Link service.
- Which protocol does the Tapo C425 (Battery Outdoor Camera Kit) use, and do I need a hub?
- The Tapo C425 (Battery Outdoor Camera Kit) uses Wi-Fi. To pair it with Home Assistant you need no hub — it joins your Wi-Fi network directly. TP-Link's own hub is not required when you integrate through a community integration installed through HACS.
