Our verdict
A tri-band Wi-Fi 7 mesh at a more reasonable price than the Orbi 970, around GBP 450 for a 2-pack. Orbi costs more than Deco for similar tri-band performance, so the case for it is the dedicated backhaul and Netgear's app. Good if you want a proper wired-backhaul-capable system, less so if you are watching the budget.
What can Home Assistant control on the Netgear Orbi 770?
Home Assistant core has a netgear integration (local polling) for NETGEAR routers and access points. The docs do not mention Orbi by name, so Orbi 770 compatibility was not verified.

Frequently asked questions
- Does the Netgear Orbi 770 work with Home Assistant locally?
- Yes. The Netgear Orbi 770 is controlled locally in Home Assistant through a built-in Home Assistant core integration (netgear), so it keeps working if your internet connection or the Netgear cloud goes down. Control and state updates stay on your own network.
- Which protocol does the Netgear Orbi 770 use, and do I need a hub?
- The Netgear Orbi 770 uses Wi-Fi. To pair it with Home Assistant you need no hub — it joins your Wi-Fi network directly. Netgear's own hub is not required when you integrate through a built-in Home Assistant core integration (netgear).
