Our verdict
A very expensive quad-band Wi-Fi 7 mesh: GBP 1,699.99 for the 3-pack at the time of checking, with a satellite alone at about GBP 700. It is only worth considering for a very large home with a wired backhaul and multi-gig broadband. Most people will get better value from the Orbi 770 or TP-Link and ASUS alternatives.
What can Home Assistant control on the Netgear Orbi 970?
Home Assistant core has a netgear integration (local polling) for NETGEAR routers and access points with device trackers and router switches. The docs do not mention Orbi by name, so Orbi 970 compatibility was not verified.

Frequently asked questions
- Does the Netgear Orbi 970 work with Home Assistant locally?
- Yes. The Netgear Orbi 970 is controlled locally in Home Assistant through a built-in Home Assistant core integration (netgear), so it keeps working if your internet connection or the Netgear cloud goes down. Control and state updates stay on your own network.
- Which protocol does the Netgear Orbi 970 use, and do I need a hub?
- The Netgear Orbi 970 uses Wi-Fi. To pair it with Home Assistant you need no hub — it joins your Wi-Fi network directly. Netgear's own hub is not required when you integrate through a built-in Home Assistant core integration (netgear).
