Our verdict
An AX3000 Wi-Fi 6 extender with a gigabit port, at about GBP 60. Extenders always lose speed since they repeat the signal, so wire it back if you can, or use a proper mesh. It is the better option if you already have a TP-Link OneMesh-compatible router.
What can Home Assistant control on the TP-Link RE700X?
No Home Assistant integration verified. It is an extender with no admin API; HA will see the devices connected to it, not the extender.

Frequently asked questions
- Does the TP-Link RE700X work with Home Assistant locally?
- Yes. The TP-Link RE700X is controlled locally in Home Assistant through a certified "Works with Home Assistant" integration, so it keeps working if your internet connection or the TP-Link cloud goes down. Control and state updates stay on your own network.
- Which protocol does the TP-Link RE700X use, and do I need a hub?
- The TP-Link RE700X uses Wi-Fi. To pair it with Home Assistant you need no hub — it joins your Wi-Fi network directly. TP-Link's own hub is not required when you integrate through a certified "Works with Home Assistant" integration.
