One of the few contact sensors officially certified Works with Home Assistant (Matter over Thread), so pairing and long-term support are as safe as it gets. At £24 it still costs roughly double Aqara's own Zigbee door sensor and over three times IKEA's £7 MYGGBETT, which runs the same Matter-over-Thread stack — pick the P2 for the certification and slimmer 77×22×22mm build, not raw capability. It runs on a single CR123A battery rather than the coin cells most rivals use — bulkier in the frame, but fewer battery changes. You'll still need a Thread border router such as HA's Connect ZBT-1 or an Apple/Google hub.

The P2's spec sheet lists no built-in temperature sensor, so don't expect a bonus temperature entity here — contact state and battery only. The Works with Home Assistant badge is a device-specific certification plus a signed manufacturer agreement to keep compatibility working, not a different Matter data model, so the sensor rides through HA's generic Matter integration the same way an uncertified device does; the practical payoff is Aqara's commitment to fix breakage, not richer entities. One pairing gotcha specific to this sensor: adding it to a second Matter controller after Home Assistant requires generating a fresh pairing code from whichever app it's already commissioned into, since rescanning the original box QR code fails. Because it's a sleepy Thread end device, a door genuinely left ajar can still show a few extra seconds of state lag beyond the open event itself — worth padding any door-left-open alert threshold rather than trusting the state-change timestamp precisely.
