FIBARO Smoke Sensor (FGSD-002)
- Z-Wave
Verified August 2026
The Z-Wave answer to the frient smoke alarm already on this site, for anyone building a Z-Wave JS network instead of Zigbee — same idea of a smart companion sensor layered on top of your interlinked mains alarms, not a replacement for them. It's an older, well-worn design (Z-Wave Plus, not the newer Z-Wave Long Range chipsets), so expect a smaller, more battery-hungry mesh footprint than FIBARO's current-generation kit, and check current Home Assistant community threads before buying since a handful of users report the smoke entity not showing up cleanly on first pairing with zwave_js.
In Home Assistant
Pairs as a standard Z-Wave JS device once included on your Z-Wave network — no separate hub or cloud account needed beyond your existing Z-Wave JS controller. Exposes smoke (binary sensor), temperature, and battery entities, plus the ability to trigger the onboard siren from an HA automation for a dual-purpose fire/intruder alert, mirroring the pattern used with the Zigbee frient alarm elsewhere on this site. Unlike that frient unit, whose siren binding is well documented, several HA Community threads note the FGSD-002's smoke entity sometimes doesn't appear after initial inclusion — running a manual 're-interview' from the Z-Wave JS dashboard usually resolves it, and it's worth verifying that entity actually reports before relying on it in an automation.
