Only worth it if you already own a Hive Hub. The bulb needs one, and the Home Assistant route goes through Hive's cloud rather than the hub's Zigbee radio, so you inherit Hive's login, 2FA and polling delays instead of getting a local Zigbee light. The retailer page we checked also showed the single bulb as temporarily out of stock, and Hive has already retired other products (View cameras, HomeShield, leak sensors), so don't build a whole house around a line the owner is winding down elsewhere. If you want cool-to-warm GU10s with Home Assistant, a Zigbee bulb on ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT is the less fragile choice.
What can Home Assistant control on the Hive Active Light GU10 (Cool to Warm White)?
| Control | Type | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Light | Light | On/off, brightness and colour temperature (cool to warm white) via Hive's cloud, polled at 30 s or slower. |
Built into Core as 'hive' and cloud polling only: the integration talks to Hive's servers, not the hub, and the scan interval cannot be set below 30 seconds. 2FA must be enabled on the Hive account and only the account owner's login works, not shared users. Removing the integration deregisters the instance from your Hive account, so re-adding it registers a new device. Light controls available depend on the model; this cool-to-warm bulb gives brightness and colour temperature.

Frequently asked questions
- Does the Hive Active Light GU10 (Cool to Warm White) work with Home Assistant locally?
- Partly. The Hive Active Light GU10 (Cool to Warm White) connects to Home Assistant through a built-in Home Assistant core integration (hive), which relies on the Hive cloud. It works in Home Assistant, but commands go via the internet and stop working during an outage of your connection or the Hive service.
- Which protocol does the Hive Active Light GU10 (Cool to Warm White) use, and do I need a hub?
- The Hive Active Light GU10 (Cool to Warm White) uses Zigbee. To pair it with Home Assistant you need a Zigbee coordinator (for example a SkyConnect/ZBT-1 or Sonoff dongle) attached to your Home Assistant host. Hive's own hub is not required when you integrate through a built-in Home Assistant core integration (hive).
