Small E14 fittings are where smart bulb choice collapses in the UK, which makes this £7 full-colour Matter bulb from IKEA's 2026 KAJPLATS range a quiet triumph. Philips Hue's colour E14 candle runs about £50 for the same fitting, seven times the price, and IKEA matches it on CRI (90) while beating it on rated lifespan (25,000 hours). Colour saturation isn't Hue-grade — budget RGB LEDs render deep reds and blues a touch flatter — so it suits mood lighting and accent fittings over colour-critical displays. Pair it with the plain white KAJPLATS E27 for a mixed budget Matter setup: colour in lamps, cheaper white-only bulbs elsewhere.
What can Home Assistant control on the IKEA KAJPLATS E14 colour & white spectrum bulb (806 lm)?
| Control | Type | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Brightness | Slider (0-100%) | Dim the bulb |
| Colour | Colour picker | Full RGB colour control (confirm your exact SKU isn't tunable-white only) |
| Colour temperature | Slider | Warm-to-cool white |
Matter pushes state via subscription rather than polling, so a paired automation reacts the instant the bulb changes rather than waiting on a poll cycle — worth relying on for anything time-sensitive. Worth checking before buying: some KAJPLATS E14 SKUs are tunable-white only rather than full colour, so confirm the exact model number. A known pairing error ("Failed to process UDP: Security") traces to the Matter Server add-on's attestation-certificate check and needs the 8.2.2+ beta channel to fix; having the same bulb also paired to Apple Home/Google Home/Dirigera at once can cause competing-subscription timeouts that knock the HA entity unavailable.
