The premium hub-free strip: 16 individually addressable colour zones that the native LIFX integration controls fully locally over the LAN — Home Assistant can even paint different colours per zone, which Hue's strip can't do without gradient hardware. It's also genuinely extendable: clip on LIFX Z segments and keep going up to 80 zones total on one controller, something a fixed-length Govee strip simply can't do. Cuttable at marked points every 6 LEDs and self-adhesive on the back for a clean install. Pricier than Govee out of the box, but the local multizone control and headroom to grow justify it if you're building out a proper lighting rig.

Per-zone control isn't exposed through the standard light-turn-on call at all — it's a separate service that takes a zero-indexed zones list alongside the usual colour/brightness fields, so automations addressing individual zones need two different service calls depending on whether they're touching the whole strip or a subset. Recent firmware writes all 16 zones' colour values in one extended-multizone UDP packet instead of the old segmented scheme, so full-strip colour updates are a single round trip — noticeably snappier than the A60's single-zone set. The Move effect runs entirely on the bulb's own firmware once triggered, so it keeps animating smoothly over the physical zone data even if HA's poll cycle lags or Wi-Fi hiccups. Zone count is read at integration setup, so clipping on a LIFX Z extension segment later means the new zones won't respond to zone-targeting calls until the config entry is reloaded.
