Hue's one purpose-built sleep and wake-up lamp: a bedside lamp with a gradient-washed back light and a front light that can be dimmed very low, designed to run a gentle sunset to switch-off and a sunrise-style wake-up. At £249.99 it costs several times a normal Hue lamp, and the wind-down and wake-up behaviour is the whole point, so buy it only if you will actually use that. The catch for a Home Assistant user is that the polished sleep and wake automations live in the Hue app; HA sees a light and scenes, not a 'sunrise alarm' entity, so you would rebuild the routine in HA if you want it there.
What can Home Assistant control on the Philips Hue Twilight Sleep and Wake-up Light?
| Control | Type | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Light | light | On/off, brightness and colour temperature through the Hue Bridge; dual light source mapping not verified. |
| Hue scenes | scene | Room scenes imported automatically by the Hue integration; HA cannot create or edit them. |
Goes through the core Hue integration, so you need a Hue Bridge on the network (the lamp also works Bluetooth-only in the Hue app, but then HA cannot see it). Expect a light entity plus the room scenes it belongs to. I could not verify how the dual front/back light sources or the built-in sleep and wake automations are surfaced in HA; treat those as Hue-app features until you have tested.

Frequently asked questions
- Does the Philips Hue Twilight Sleep and Wake-up Light work with Home Assistant locally?
- Yes. The Philips Hue Twilight Sleep and Wake-up Light is controlled locally in Home Assistant through a built-in Home Assistant core integration (hue), so it keeps working if your internet connection or the Philips Hue cloud goes down. Control and state updates stay on your own network.
- Which protocol does the Philips Hue Twilight Sleep and Wake-up Light use, and do I need a hub?
- The Philips Hue Twilight Sleep and Wake-up Light uses Zigbee and Bluetooth. To pair it with Home Assistant you need a Zigbee coordinator (for example a SkyConnect/ZBT-1 or Sonoff dongle) attached to your Home Assistant host; or a Bluetooth adapter on your Home Assistant host or an ESPHome Bluetooth proxy. Philips Hue's own hub is not required when you integrate through a built-in Home Assistant core integration (hue).
