Shelly is one of the few lighting brands with official Works with Home Assistant certification, and the Duo Gen3 behaves like all Shelly kit: fully local Wi-Fi, instant push updates, even MQTT if you prefer. It's tunable white only — no colour — so if you want RGB scenes, WiZ or IKEA's KAJPLATS bulbs are cheaper and simpler. What the Duo offers instead: Wi-Fi rather than Matter/Zigbee, a genuine Bluetooth proxy for battery sensors (it's mains-powered), and on-device scripts that keep circadian schedules running through a Home Assistant outage. Best for tinkerers already running Shelly gear, not casual buyers who just want a warm-white bulb that dims from an app.

Gen3 devices talk to Home Assistant over the RPC/WebSocket protocol instead of Gen1's CoIoT broadcast, so there's no CoIoT peer configuration or the repair-issue nagging that shows up when a Gen1 device's CoIoT setup drifts — the integration just connects and pushes state changes instantly. Brightness and colour temperature (2700K-6500K) aren't separate entities; both live as attributes on a single light entity, so dashboards expecting a dedicated colour-temp slider need an explicit call carrying both parameters. Because Gen3 ships Shelly's own scripting engine, you can push a circadian colour-temp schedule directly onto the bulb's own interface that keeps running through a Home Assistant outage or Wi-Fi drop, then expose a switch entity in HA purely to enable or disable that on-device script remotely.
