A flexible RGB wire of individually addressable dots that suits Christmas-tree, mantel and window use more than room lighting. The Home Assistant side is better than most novelty lighting because the Twinkly integration is built into Core and talks to the lights over your LAN, but it is thinner than the app: you get on/off, brightness, static colour and effects, not music mode. Be aware the amzlink.to link in the best-led-strip-lights-uk article resolves to the 200 LED, 10 m, black-wire variant (Amazon UK title says in- and outdoor, IP44), so that is the variant drafted here; Twinkly sells 60, 200 and 400 LED versions and they are not interchangeable in rating or power.
What can Home Assistant control on the Twinkly Dots 200 LED (10 m)?
| Control | Type | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Light | Light | On/off, brightness, static RGB colour and effects (effects only appear after being created in the Twinkly app). |
| Mode | Select | Switch between Color, Movie, Playlist, Off and Demo modes. |
Built into Home Assistant Core as twinkly (local polling, auto-discovered; give the string a static IP). Exposes a light entity (on/off, brightness, RGB colour, effects) and a select for operating mode (Color, Movie, Playlist, Off, Demo). The catch: effects do not exist on the device until you create them in the Twinkly app, so the effect list is empty out of the box, and real-time and music modes are not supported. Community reports say a firmware update can change the local API and temporarily break control until the integration is patched; I could not verify that on a primary source.

Frequently asked questions
- Does the Twinkly Dots 200 LED (10 m) work with Home Assistant locally?
- Yes. The Twinkly Dots 200 LED (10 m) is controlled locally in Home Assistant through a built-in Home Assistant core integration (twinkly), so it keeps working if your internet connection or the Twinkly cloud goes down. Control and state updates stay on your own network.
- Which protocol does the Twinkly Dots 200 LED (10 m) use, and do I need a hub?
- The Twinkly Dots 200 LED (10 m) uses Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. To pair it with Home Assistant you need no hub — it joins your Wi-Fi network directly; or a Bluetooth adapter on your Home Assistant host or an ESPHome Bluetooth proxy. Twinkly's own hub is not required when you integrate through a built-in Home Assistant core integration (twinkly).
