WiZ Smart Colour Bulb E27 (8.5 W)

Signify's budget Wi-Fi brand is a full-colour bulb with a proper native, local-push Home Assistant integration — around £15 on Amazon UK, no hub, no cloud dependency for control. Wi-Fi means no Thread border router requirement, at the cost of adding one more device to your 2.4GHz network. Colour saturation is a step below Hue — CRI ≥80 versus Hue's ~90 — fine for mood lighting and dynamic scenes, less convincing for colour-critical rooms. B22 bayonet versions exist too, so it covers UK fittings Hue and IKEA sometimes miss.
In Home Assistant
| Control | Type | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Effect | Select | Exposes WiZ's built-in scenes (Ocean, Party, Cozy, Wake-up, Rhythm, etc.) as selectable light effects via the local UDP API — no cloud round-trip. |
| Effect speed | Number | Controls playback speed of the active dynamic scene; only available while a speed-adjustable effect is selected. |
| Colour temperature | Number (Kelvin) | Tunable white control for non-colour scenes and manual white mode. |
| Colour | RGB | Full colour control for manual colour mode, independent of the preset scene list. |
| Brightness | Number (0-255) | Standard brightness level, pushed locally over UDP with no polling delay. |
HA's wiz integration talks pywizlight's UDP protocol directly, exposing all of WiZ's built-in scenes (Ocean, Party, Rhythm and more) as the light entity's effect list, plus a dedicated effect-speed control that only appears once a speed-adjustable scene is active. Auto-discovery relies on UDP broadcast, which reliably breaks across VLANs or subnets larger than /24, and multiple reports show devices vanishing from discovery entirely after moving them to a DHCP reservation or static IP — manual IP entry via the config flow is the accepted workaround, not a firmware fix. Initial provisioning still goes through the WiZ app over Bluetooth since HA cannot provision a bare bulb, and newly paired units often sit offline for a few minutes while a mandatory firmware update runs first.
