The G4's successor is the tinkerer's pick: a local HomeKit path into HA, an RTSP stream (wired power only), on-device face recognition and a chime that doubles as a Matter/Thread hub — no subscription needed. Six AA batteries claim up to 5 months wireless, but that drops fast with heavy motion traffic, and battery mode loses the RTSP feed HA needs — hardwire it if the camera matters more than cable-free fitting. At £109.99 it costs more than Ring's Battery Doorbell (£79.99, cloud-only) or Reolink's WiFi doorbell (£89.99, fully local), but neither of those offers a local HomeKit Secure Video path — that's the premium you're paying for.

The homekit_controller pairing (code entered when you hit Configure in HA) exposes roughly ten entities, but the doorbell press itself only shows up as an event entity — not a binary_sensor — so automations need an event trigger with a platform state check rather than a simple state-change trigger. Face recognition and mmWave presence stay Aqara-app-only over this path; a separate Aqara sync layer is needed to surface a face-match result as anything HA can see. The HomeKit camera entity is a live-view feed distinct from the wired RTSP stream, and expect it to break if the G410 gets re-paired to Apple Home, since HomeKit devices only pair to one controller at a time.
