The UK's default doorbell at a sharp £79.99 — the right call for most households, but know what you give up against the £219.99 Pro: 2K instead of Retinal 4K, 6x zoom instead of 10x, no radar-based 3D motion or Bird's Eye Zones. The sealed, non-removable battery needs a USB-C top-up every few months; there's no spare pack to swap in. Ding and motion event entities are also currently unreliable in HA on this exact model. Still cloud-only, with a Ring Home subscription needed for recorded clips. If local control matters more than the ecosystem, the Reolink Video Doorbell WiFi is £10 more, fully local, and Works with Home Assistant certified.

Multiple reports against Home Assistant's core repo describe this exact newest-gen base doorbell showing up with its ding and motion event entities missing entirely rather than just simplified — only the camera stream, last-activity snapshot, battery and volume reliably come through — and it's been treated as a lower priority to fix, so the gap looks likely to persist. That's a step down from even older swappable-battery Ring doorbells, and a different failure mode from the Pro model, which does get proper ding/motion events, just no 3D-zone data in HA. The non-removable battery still reports through the same generic battery-percentage sensor as every other Ring device, so there's no distinct internal-battery entity to worry about. Given the event entities are unreliable, a more dependable automation is watching the last-activity camera entity's update timestamp as a proxy trigger for something happening at the door, since it keeps populating even when the dedicated ding/motion events don't fire.
