Ring's flagship battery doorbell: Retinal 4K, 10x zoom, radar-based 3D motion, and the best image quality in the Ring line-up. The 9400mAh battery lasts roughly 3-6 months per charge (Ring's estimate), with USB-C fast charging, an optional solar panel, or hardwire it to existing bell wiring instead. Live view and notifications are free, but clip storage and person alerts need a Ring Home subscription from £4.99/month. Same caveat as every Ring: cloud-only in HA, no local storage. Local-first buyers should look at the Reolink Video Doorbell WiFi instead — Works with Home Assistant certified, fully local RTSP, zero subscription, half the price.

ControlTypeWhat it does
Doorbell pressEventFires on doorbell press; distinguishes ding from motion/intercom-unlock.
MotionBinary sensorGeneric motion-detected flag — reflects that radar motion fired somewhere in view, but carries no zone/Bird's Eye data since zones are app-only.
BatterySensor (%)Battery percentage, updated on the poll cycle rather than pushed, so it can trail the app's reading briefly after a charge or heavy use.
CameraCameraLive view stream (no two-way audio support in HA) plus a last-recording snapshot that only populates with an active Ring Protect subscription.
Motion detectionSwitchToggles Ring-side motion detection on/off entirely — all-or-nothing, since individual zone sensitivity still has to be set in the Ring app.

HA's ring integration polls Ring's cloud roughly every minute but also holds a persistent connection to Ring's push service, so ding and motion events usually land in HA within a couple of seconds rather than waiting on the poll cycle — though several users report the entity's last-activity timestamp itself lagging the real event by over a minute, a known quirk rather than a misconfiguration. The radar-based 3D Motion Detection and Bird's Eye Zones stay entirely app-side: HA only ever exposes one generic motion binary sensor/event with no per-zone entities, so zone-aware automations aren't possible without configuring zones in the Ring app first. Ring has also been shortening OAuth token lifetimes, which surfaces in HA logs as sudden authentication failures needing a manual reauth through the integration page.
