Ring
Ring Wired Video Doorbell (newest gen)
- Wi-Fi
Verified September 2026
The mains-powered sibling to the battery Ring doorbells in this directory, for £59.99 -- never charging a battery, but the same limits apply: Retinal 2K, wide field of view, 6x zoom, low-light night vision (Ring doesn't publish exact FOV degrees or confirm colour night vision for this SKU), and the official ring integration remains cloud-only -- Ring Protect (from £4.99/month) is needed for recorded clips, not just live view. Pick this over the battery model only if you have doorbell wiring already. For a wired doorbell with published IP65, confirmed colour night vision, and full local RTSP storage instead of a subscription, the Reolink Video Doorbell WiFi is £30 more.
In Home Assistant
| Control | Type | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Doorbell press | Event | Fires on doorbell press and motion; use this entity for automations rather than the legacy motion binary sensor. |
| Motion | Binary sensor | Legacy motion on/off state, retained alongside the event entity; can keep updating even when the ding event entity stops firing, so it's a useful liveness check. |
| Camera | Camera | Cloud-relayed live view and last-recording snapshot; no local RTSP path since local control is false. |
| Motion detection | Switch | Toggles motion detection server-side; because the unit is mains-powered there's no battery-drain trade-off to weigh when leaving this on continuously, unlike the battery models. |
| Signal strength | Sensor | Wi-Fi diagnostic sensor; no battery percentage sensor exists for this SKU since it draws from the doorbell transformer. |
Being hardwired doesn't change the ring integration's mechanics: it still polls Ring's cloud roughly every minute regardless of power source, and real-time ding/motion push still depends on a persistent connection to Ring's push service rather than anything local. Community reports on this wired model mirror the base battery doorbell's bug — motion keeps updating while ding events silently stop firing after some uptime, so don't assume hardwiring fixes the missing-event problem. One wired-specific risk: very new SKUs sometimes ship with a device identifier the integration's underlying library hasn't mapped yet, which shows the doorbell as unrecognised in HA with entities missing entirely until a library update lands.
