Verified July 2026

Remarkable value at ~£82 with a 2K 180° head-to-toe view, bundled chime and local microSD recording — no subscription required. The catch for HA users: the local RTSP stream only works when hardwired, so battery-only installs are limited to app-land.

There's no dedicated doorbell-press entity in the tplink_tapo integration — HA only gets a camera entity and (firmware-dependent) a general motion sensor. The documented workaround is a cross-app proxy: set up a Tapo-app automation (not in HA) that flips a paired Tapo smart bulb on doorbell press, then trigger your HA automation off that bulb's state change, using different presets to tell a press apart from ordinary motion. As already flagged, TP-Link pulled RTSP/ONVIF specifically to save battery, so this only works reliably on a hardwired D225.
