The premium local-first option: PoE-powered with dual cameras (5MP front + 8MP package cam), fully local via the excellent native unifiprotect integration, zero subscription. The catch is the ecosystem tax — it doesn't work standalone; it needs a UniFi Protect host, and even the cheapest viable one (a Cloud Gateway Ultra or similar console) adds a meaningful chunk on the doorbell's own £300-447 street price. Genuinely worth it if you already run UniFi gear and want one more device on the same console; a poor first purchase otherwise. Want a reliable local doorbell without buying into a console? The unifiprotect integration exposes the doorbell's smart detections as first-class event entities rather than generic binary sensors — separate events fire for person, vehicle, and animal detection, plus a dedicated package delivered/retrieved event pair, each carrying attributes you can pull straight into automation conditions. It's a local-push integration with no polling, but early adopters hit a websocket subscription bug that froze the HA UI on this exact doorbell model, and package-detection events have a history of silently failing to trigger after certain Protect firmware updates — both fixed upstream now, but worth flagging if a user reports missed events after an update.
