The cheap way to put an old IR remote-controlled device, such as a TV, fan, heater or air conditioner, under Home Assistant control. It learns codes from your existing remote and replays them, and Home Assistant talks to it locally on your network. The honest limit is that IR is one-way: HA can send 'power' but never knows whether the TV actually came on, so keep state in a helper or pair it with a power-monitoring plug. It is 2.4GHz Wi-Fi only and has to be set up in the Broadlink app first. This listing is the plain Mini; the RM4 mini S bundle with a temperature/humidity sensor cable is a different listing.
What can Home Assistant control on the Broadlink RM4 Mini?
| Control | Type | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Remote | Remote | Learn and send IR commands via remote.learn_command and remote.send_command. |
| Infrared | Infrared | Lets other integrations send IR through the RM4 mini. |
| Sensors | Sensor | Only present when a Broadlink e-Sensor or sensor cable is attached. |
Uses HA's core Broadlink integration (local polling): the device must first be set up on 2.4GHz Wi-Fi in the Broadlink app, then HA discovers it. It appears as a remote entity; call remote.learn_command with a device and command name, point your original remote at it when the LED blinks, then replay with remote.send_command. IR-capable models also get an infrared entity so other integrations can send IR commands through it. Sending is one-way, so track device state yourself.

Frequently asked questions
- Does the Broadlink RM4 Mini work with Home Assistant locally?
- Yes. The Broadlink RM4 Mini is controlled locally in Home Assistant through a built-in Home Assistant core integration (broadlink), so it keeps working if your internet connection or the Broadlink cloud goes down. Control and state updates stay on your own network.
- Which protocol does the Broadlink RM4 Mini use, and do I need a hub?
- The Broadlink RM4 Mini uses Wi-Fi. To pair it with Home Assistant you need no hub — it joins your Wi-Fi network directly. Broadlink's own hub is not required when you integrate through a built-in Home Assistant core integration (broadlink).
