Our verdict

A hose-fed, self-contained sprinkler-and-controller system, not a valve box for an existing underground setup, and it is the only pick here with no official Home Assistant support. Two unrelated community HACS integrations exist and they work very differently: one talks to the unit directly over Bluetooth LE (local, needs a Bluetooth adapter or proxy in range), the other goes through Aiper's cloud MQTT. Both are small, reverse-engineered projects, so a firmware or cloud change can break them without warning. Treat it as a project, not an appliance.

What can Home Assistant control on the Aiper IrriSense 2?

Option 1, github.com/knobunc/aiper: BLE, 'no cloud, no hub', connect-poll-disconnect (every 15 s while irrigating, every 60 s idle) so it does not block the Aiper phone app; the 'pause' command behaves as stop; needs HA 2024.1+ and a Bluetooth adapter in range. Option 2, github.com/Merlz/ha-aiper-irrisense-2: cloud-polled with MQTT push through Aiper's AWS endpoints, needs an Aiper account, and the Aiper cloud allows only one MQTT session per account, so opening the phone app kicks Home Assistant off and vice versa. It exposes zone and start/stop controls, run telemetry, a zone-map image and several switches. Its author warns cloud endpoints can change without notice and only the second-generation unit is tested.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Aiper IrriSense 2 work with Home Assistant locally?
Yes. The Aiper IrriSense 2 is controlled locally in Home Assistant through a community integration installed through HACS, so it keeps working if your internet connection or the Aiper cloud goes down. Control and state updates stay on your own network.
Which protocol does the Aiper IrriSense 2 use, and do I need a hub?
The Aiper IrriSense 2 uses Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. To pair it with Home Assistant you need no hub — it joins your Wi-Fi network directly; or a Bluetooth adapter on your Home Assistant host or an ESPHome Bluetooth proxy. Aiper's own hub is not required when you integrate through a community integration installed through HACS.
