Our verdict
A tri-band Wi-Fi 6E router with a 2.5G port, AiMesh support and subscription-free security. It is a capable router for Home Assistant users because ASUSWRT is well supported for presence tracking, but at around GBP 300 on Amazon it was priced above newer Wi-Fi 7 ASUS models when checked, so look at those first.
What can Home Assistant control on the ASUS RT-AXE7800?
Home Assistant core has an asuswrt integration for ASUS routers running ASUSWRT firmware (local polling over telnet or HTTP(S)), giving device trackers, connected-device counts, traffic and speed sensors and load/temperature sensors. Compatibility with this specific model was not verified against the docs.

Frequently asked questions
- Does the ASUS RT-AXE7800 work with Home Assistant locally?
- Yes. The ASUS RT-AXE7800 is controlled locally in Home Assistant through a built-in Home Assistant core integration (asuswrt), so it keeps working if your internet connection or the ASUS cloud goes down. Control and state updates stay on your own network.
