Our verdict
A Cat19 4G+ home router with two TS9 antenna sockets, one of the best-known options for rural homes with no fixed broadband. It is also dear for 4G in 2026, and the unit is unlocked, so you need to bring your own SIM. Antenna placement matters more than the router.
What can Home Assistant control on the Huawei B818?
Home Assistant core has a huawei_lte integration (local polling) giving device trackers, signal strength sensors (RSRP, RSRQ, SINR), SMS and mobile-data switches for devices supported by the huawei-lte-api library. The B818 was not checked against the library's tested-devices list.

Frequently asked questions
- Does the Huawei B818 work with Home Assistant locally?
- Yes. The Huawei B818 is controlled locally in Home Assistant through a built-in Home Assistant core integration (huawei_lte), so it keeps working if your internet connection or the Huawei cloud goes down. Control and state updates stay on your own network.
- Which protocol does the Huawei B818 use, and do I need a hub?
- The Huawei B818 uses Wi-Fi. To pair it with Home Assistant you need no hub — it joins your Wi-Fi network directly. Huawei's own hub is not required when you integrate through a built-in Home Assistant core integration (huawei_lte).
