Our verdict
A Wi-Fi 7 (BE3600) extender for people who have already upgraded to a Wi-Fi 7 router. The catch is that extenders cost you throughput, and at about GBP 93 it is better value to buy a second mesh node. Amazon's listing title is a European translation, so check you are getting the UK plug version at checkout.
What can Home Assistant control on the TP-Link RE235BE?
No Home Assistant integration. It is a repeater with no admin API; HA only sees the devices connected through it.

Frequently asked questions
- Does the TP-Link RE235BE work with Home Assistant locally?
- Partly. The TP-Link RE235BE connects to Home Assistant through a certified "Works with Home Assistant" integration, which relies on the TP-Link cloud. It works in Home Assistant, but commands go via the internet and stop working during an outage of your connection or the TP-Link service.
- Which protocol does the TP-Link RE235BE use, and do I need a hub?
- The TP-Link RE235BE uses Wi-Fi. To pair it with Home Assistant you need no hub — it joins your Wi-Fi network directly. TP-Link's own hub is not required when you integrate through a certified "Works with Home Assistant" integration.
