The best all-round Zigbee PIR for UK Home Assistant users, pairing straight into Zigbee2MQTT or ZHA despite the box insisting you need an Aqara hub. At £18.99 on Amazon UK (RRP £23.99) it costs roughly double the budget SONOFF SNZB-03P, and the extra buys a wider field of view — 170° out to 2m narrowing to 150° at 7m versus SONOFF's fixed 110°/6m — plus numeric lux instead of a dim/bright enum, three-step sensitivity, and a detection interval you can set anywhere from 2 seconds upwards rather than a fixed 5-60s window. Two CR2450 cells claim 5 years against roughly 3. Against Aqara's own newer options the P1 still makes sense: the Motion and Light Sensor P2 moves to Thread/Matter, which means you need a Thread border router and, because Matter only carries the basic occupancy and light readings, its sensitivity and timeout are set in the Aqara app rather than exposed in Home Assistant; the P1 on Zigbee gives you all of that as native HA entities. The FP2 (around £58) is a different tool — a mains-powered mmWave presence sensor that keeps a room "occupied" while someone sits still and can split it into zones, but it needs a USB socket and Wi-Fi. Buy the P1 for hallways, landings, stairs and open-plan spaces where a battery PIR that fires quickly is what you want; buy an FP2 for a living room or office where people sit still; for a doorway or small room, the SONOFF does the job for less.

Pairing: put ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT into permit-join first, then hold the P1's button for about five seconds until the LED blinks blue. Both integrations identify it as model RTCGQ14LM (lumi.motion.ac02) and create the occupancy binary sensor, a numeric illuminance sensor in lux, battery percentage and a device temperature sensor, so a lighting automation can gate on "motion AND illuminance below threshold" without a separate light sensor at all — most basic PIRs can't offer that. The configuration is what sets it apart from cheaper Zigbee PIRs: motion sensitivity (low/medium/high) and the detection interval — how long occupancy stays on before it can re-trigger, 2 to 65535 seconds in Zigbee2MQTT, defaulting to 30s — are exposed as select and number entities you can change from Home Assistant, along with a switch for the blue trigger LED. ZHA exposes the same three through its built-in quirk as configuration entities on the device page. Two real gotchas: settings writes only take if you press the sensor's button right before sending them (the P1 sleeps hard between reports and ignores writes otherwise), and its short Zigbee advertisement window means an already-open permit-join window or being too far from the coordinator can cause the initial join packet to silently drop — pair it near the coordinator, then move it. Pick the shortest detection interval you can live with for lighting automations; the stock 30s is fine for hallways, but a 5-10s interval with a timer in HA gives a faster "lights off" without draining the battery noticeably.
