Aqara Motion Sensor P1

Zigbee2MQTT / ZHALocal control

Verified July 2026

The best all-round Zigbee PIR for UK Home Assistant users: adjustable detection timeout (1-200s) and a claimed 5-year battery make it ideal for hallway and landing lighting automations. Pairs directly with Zigbee2MQTT or ZHA — no Aqara hub needed despite what the box says.

Zigbee2MQTT exposes a built-in lux sensor alongside occupancy, so a lighting automation can gate on "motion AND illuminance below threshold" without needing a separate light sensor at all — most basic PIRs can't offer that. Two real pairing gotchas: settings writes (sensitivity, timeout, LED indicator) only take if you press the sensor's button right before sending them, and its short Zigbee advertisement window means an already-open permit-join window or being too far from the coordinator can cause the initial join packet to silently drop.
