Our verdict

The wire-free presence sensor, and the one to buy if the mains-powered FP2 is awkward to place. It combines a PIR and a 60GHz mmWave radar with temperature, humidity and light sensing in one battery-powered unit (two CR2450 cells), and it speaks either Zigbee or Matter over Thread, so you choose the radio at setup. In Zigbee2MQTT you get a presence entity plus PIR-only, mmWave-only or combined sensing modes, which helps kill false triggers from fans. It is not zone-aware like the FP2, so if you need multi-zone detection stay with that. The one trap: moving it from Thread/Matter mode back to Zigbee can need more than a normal reset.

What can Home Assistant control on the Aqara Presence Multi-Sensor FP300?

ControlTypeWhat it does
PresenceBinary sensorCombined PIR and mmWave presence.
Sensing modeSelectBoth, mmWave only or PIR only, useful for tuning out fans.
Temperature / humidity / illuminanceSensorEnvironmental readings from the same unit.
BatterySensorPercentage and voltage; can take up to 24 hours to report.

Zigbee2MQTT supports it as the PS-S04D and exposes presence and PIR detection with a selectable sensing mode (both, mmWave or PIR), temperature, humidity, illuminance, detection range settings, LED night-off scheduling and battery. Battery percentage can take up to 24 hours to report. If you flip it between Zigbee and Thread/Matter, hold the reset button 5 seconds to re-pair, and press it 10 times quickly for a full factory reset because a normal reset may not be enough. It can also join HA directly over Matter-over-Thread.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Aqara Presence Multi-Sensor FP300 work with Home Assistant locally?
Yes. The Aqara Presence Multi-Sensor FP300 is controlled locally in Home Assistant through Zigbee2MQTT or ZHA, so it keeps working if your internet connection or the Aqara cloud goes down. Control and state updates stay on your own network.
Which protocol does the Aqara Presence Multi-Sensor FP300 use, and do I need a hub?
The Aqara Presence Multi-Sensor FP300 uses Zigbee and Thread and Matter. To pair it with Home Assistant you need a Zigbee coordinator (for example a SkyConnect/ZBT-1 or Sonoff dongle) attached to your Home Assistant host; or a Thread border router (Home Assistant Connect ZBT-1, Apple TV 4K or a HomePod mini all work); or a Thread border router if it is Matter-over-Thread, or just your Wi-Fi network if it is Matter-over-Wi-Fi. Aqara's own hub is not required when you integrate through Zigbee2MQTT or ZHA.
