Cheap Zigbee human-presence sensor for around £20 that detects both movement and a still person, which a PIR motion sensor cannot. It uses a 5.8GHz microwave radar, not true mmWave, and is mains/USB-powered (USB-C 5V), so it suits a desk, a bathroom or a landing where you can run a cable, not a battery-and-stick placement. Range is around 4m. In Zigbee2MQTT it is a simple occupancy sensor with timeout and sensitivity settings; that is all it does, with no zones or distance reporting like the pricier FP2 and FP300. Check the firmware: Zigbee2MQTT recommends 1.0.5 or later for reliable behaviour. Not to be confused with the SNZB-06P24 24GHz model.
What can Home Assistant control on the SONOFF SNZB-06P?
| Control | Type | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Occupancy | Binary sensor | True while a moving or still person is detected. |
| Occupancy timeout | Number | Delay from occupied to unoccupied, 15 to 65535 seconds. |
| Sensitivity | Select | Low, medium or high detection sensitivity. |
| Illumination | Sensor (dim/bright) | Light level, updated only when occupancy is detected. |
Zigbee2MQTT supports it natively and ZHA is listed by retailers (not tested here). It exposes an occupancy binary sensor, an occupancy timeout (15 to 65535 seconds), a low/medium/high sensitivity setting and a dim/bright illumination reading that only updates when occupancy is detected. Upgrade to firmware 1.0.5 or later: on 1.0.3 the sensor can misbehave and the shortest detection duration is 30 seconds. Some advanced options are not in Z2M's UI and need the dev console. One retailer notes it works best behind the SONOFF Zigbee Bridge Pro, but that is not needed with Z2M.

Frequently asked questions
- Does the SONOFF SNZB-06P work with Home Assistant locally?
- Yes. The SONOFF SNZB-06P is controlled locally in Home Assistant through Zigbee2MQTT or ZHA, so it keeps working if your internet connection or the SONOFF cloud goes down. Control and state updates stay on your own network.
- Which protocol does the SONOFF SNZB-06P use, and do I need a hub?
- The SONOFF SNZB-06P uses Zigbee. To pair it with Home Assistant you need a Zigbee coordinator (for example a SkyConnect/ZBT-1 or Sonoff dongle) attached to your Home Assistant host. SONOFF's own hub is not required when you integrate through Zigbee2MQTT or ZHA.
