Our verdict
A water-cooled and heated mattress cover with a Hub that sits under the bed, with a community Home Assistant integration as the main route in. It is also by far the most expensive and most awkward item in this collection. The integration is a community HACS project that talks to Eight Sleep's cloud with your account login, Home Assistant core only has a stub, and I could not confirm any community integration explicitly supports the Pod 6. Eight Sleep also makes an Autopilot membership part of the purchase (from £199 a year per its UK page), so budget for that on top of the hardware.
What can Home Assistant control on the Eight Sleep Pod 6?
| Control | Type | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Bed temperature | Sensor / service target | Per-side bed temperature entity that also carries the alarm, priming and side services. |
| Bed presence | Binary sensor | Whether someone is in bed, calculated retroactively by Eight Sleep, so it lags. |
| Heart rate, breath rate, HRV | Sensor | Overnight vitals per side as reported by the Pod's sensors via Eight Sleep's cloud. |
| Sleep scores and time slept | Sensor | Per-side sleep score and time slept; the sleep stage entity is described as unreliable. |
| Alarms | Switch | One switch per alarm configured in the Eight Sleep app. |
| Priming | Service | Start bed priming for a side; the calling user is notified when it finishes. |
Not built in: the home-assistant.io page for the old core eight_sleep integration says it has been removed, so use a community HACS custom repository such as lukas-clarke/eight_sleep (add it as a custom repository in HACS, restart, then add the integration with your Eight Sleep email and password; both bed sides must be out of away mode during setup). Per its README it creates, per side, bed presence, bed temperature, target temperature, heart rate, breath rate, HRV, next alarm, sleep scores, time slept and sleep stage, plus bed-level water status, priming status and room temperature, switches for each alarm, and services for snoozing alarms, priming and setting the bed side. Base entities (head and feet angle, snore mitigation) appear only if you own the Base. Sensors poll every 5 minutes, bed presence is computed after the fact by Eight Sleep so it is not suitable for instant triggers, and sleep stage is flagged unreliable by the author. Because this reverse-engineers Eight Sleep's app API, a server-side change can break it.

Frequently asked questions
- Does the Eight Sleep Pod 6 work with Home Assistant locally?
- Partly. The Eight Sleep Pod 6 connects to Home Assistant through a community integration installed through HACS (eight_sleep), which relies on the Eight Sleep cloud. It works in Home Assistant, but commands go via the internet and stop working during an outage of your connection or the Eight Sleep service.
- Which protocol does the Eight Sleep Pod 6 use, and do I need a hub?
- The Eight Sleep Pod 6 uses Wi-Fi. To pair it with Home Assistant you need no hub — it joins your Wi-Fi network directly. Eight Sleep's own hub is not required when you integrate through a community integration installed through HACS (eight_sleep).
