Our verdict
Probably the best sleep data you can pull into Home Assistant from something you wear, but treat the integration as a hobby project: there is no official or built-in Oura integration, only a community HACS component that is explicitly 'not affiliated with or endorsed by Oura'. You also have to create your own Oura developer application and OAuth credentials, and the ring only reaches Home Assistant after it has synced to the phone app and Oura's cloud, so nothing is real-time. Add the ongoing Oura Membership (£5.99/month or £69.99/year per Oura's UK footnote) and the true cost is the ring plus a subscription; without it Oura says the ring has limited functionality.
What can Home Assistant control on the Oura Ring 4?
| Control | Type | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Sleep score and stages | Sensor | Last night's sleep score and sleep data, available once the ring has synced via the Oura app. |
| Readiness | Sensor | Daily readiness data from Oura, usable to drive a morning briefing or heating tweak. |
| Heart rate and HRV | Sensor | Heart rate and heart rate variability readings reported by the ring. |
| Rest mode | Binary sensor | Whether Oura rest mode is active (listed in the README sensor groups). |
| Ring battery | Sensor | Ring battery level for a charge reminder automation. |
Community HACS integration, not part of Home Assistant Core. Setup: install via HACS, create an Oura developer application with the redirect URI the README specifies, enter its Client ID and Client Secret under Application Credentials, then complete the OAuth2 sign-in. It polls Oura's cloud every 5 minutes by default (configurable 1 to 60 minutes) and Oura's rate limit applies, so shorter intervals use more of it. Per the README it exposes 118 sensors and 2 binary sensors spanning sleep, readiness, activity, heart rate and HRV, stress, SpO2, VO2 Max, workouts, tags, rest mode and ring battery. Some sensors stay unavailable until Oura has enough baseline data or if your ring or membership lacks the feature, and late-synced data is re-imported daily. It needs Home Assistant 2026.3.0 or newer. If Oura changes its API or the maintainer stops, nothing official will fix it.

Frequently asked questions
- Does the Oura Ring 4 work with Home Assistant locally?
- Partly. The Oura Ring 4 connects to Home Assistant through a community integration installed through HACS (oura), which relies on the Oura cloud. It works in Home Assistant, but commands go via the internet and stop working during an outage of your connection or the Oura service.
- Which protocol does the Oura Ring 4 use, and do I need a hub?
- The Oura Ring 4 uses Bluetooth. To pair it with Home Assistant you need a Bluetooth adapter on your Home Assistant host or an ESPHome Bluetooth proxy. Oura's own hub is not required when you integrate through a community integration installed through HACS (oura).
- How much does the Oura Ring 4 cost in the UK?
- The lowest price we have listed for the Oura Ring 4 is £349 at Oura. Prices were last checked in November 2026 and change often, so confirm on the retailer's page before buying.
