The brightest and most saturated hub-free colour bulb you can buy in the UK, and the native LIFX integration is fully local over the LAN protocol — no cloud account required. At around £30 it undercuts Philips Hue White & Colour Ambiance (~£45), pushes more lumens (1200 vs 1100), and skips the Bridge — simpler for a first colour bulb or two. Hue still wins on colour accuracy and ecosystem depth. The bigger catch is Wi-Fi-only: no mesh, so every bulb is a separate router client, and large installs (10+) can start dropping off cheaper routers — Zigbee bulbs like Hue don't hit that ceiling.

HA polls the bulb locally every few seconds rather than pushing state (IoT class: local polling), and since the 2022.8 integration overhaul each LIFX device gets its own config entry with automatic IP-change retry, which fixed a lot of the discovery drop-outs common on VLAN'd IoT networks. As a single-zone A60 it only gets the software Color Loop and Pulse effects — the Move/Flame/Morph effects and multi-theme dropdown in HA are multizone/matrix-only and won't show up for this bulb. There's no firmware-update entity in HA; OTA updates still have to go through the LIFX app.
