The 2025 Bridge Pro is the hub to buy if you're starting a Hue system in the UK now, but it's not a blanket upgrade for existing owners. It triples device capacity over the standard Bridge (150+ lights and 50+ accessories vs 50 lights), adds built-in Wi-Fi so it doesn't have to sit next to your router, and enables MotionAware, turning any three-plus-light room into a motion sensor with no extra hardware. At around £72-£80 versus roughly £50-£60 for the standard Bridge, it's only worth the premium for large multi-room installs, MotionAware, or fresh Hue buyers — casual owners on a standard Bridge gain nothing from switching.

HA only auto-adopts the Bridge Pro on a sufficiently recent core release after a restart — manually adding it as a new hub via Settings creates a duplicate entity set and breaks existing automations, per multiple community migration reports. MotionAware areas are Hue-app-only: the integration exposes zero entities for them, so HA can't trigger on them directly — the closest workaround is wrapping a bridge light manually flagged as a motion source, which surfaces in HA as a bare switch rather than a binary_sensor. Matter is a real fallback if the native integration drops (relevant if you're also bridging to Apple Home/Google Home), but Hue scenes don't traverse Matter, so scene control only exists through the direct hue integration's local eventstream.
