The default pick for older UK back boxes with no neutral wire — despite the box saying it needs the Aqara Hub, it's a plain Zigbee 3.0 device that pairs directly into Zigbee2MQTT or ZHA. At 85.8 x 86 x 37.55mm it shares its with-neutral sibling's body, so budget a back box at least 35mm deep — shallow 25mm UK boxes are a squeeze. Max load is 8A resistive, but Aqara doesn't publish a minimum: very low-draw LEDs under roughly 3W per gang need anti-flicker mode to stop ghost-glow. ZHA support is thinner than Zigbee2MQTT's (no decoupled/scene mode), so Zigbee2MQTT is the better path for remote-style use.

Because this no-neutral variant borrows a small bleeder current through the connected load to stay powered, Zigbee2MQTT exposes a mode switch (quick vs anti-flicker) specifically to fix LED flicker or ghost-glow on lights that draw too little standby current — a setting the with-neutral H1 doesn't need. It also drops the with-neutral model's power/energy metering entirely and isn't listed as a mesh router, since no-neutral devices can't sustain the constant draw that routing requires. With operation mode set to decoupled on one gang, a single/double click can drive a different Home Assistant light or scene while that gang's relay stays inert — useful for turning the second rocker on a double plate into a dedicated scene button when only one physical circuit is wired.
