Aqara Radiator Thermostat W600
- Zigbee
- Thread
- Matter
Verified September 2026
Aqara's 2025 TRV launched specifically for the UK market, and unlike the older E1 it does Thread: flip it to Thread mode and it joins Home Assistant over Matter with no Aqara hub at all. At £49.99 it undercuts the tado X radiator valve while matching the no-hub trick — but that convenience costs you valve position, battery reporting and external-sensor pairing in Home Assistant. Want those back? Add an Aqara hub and run it Zigbee instead. It's a compact ⌀57×90mm cylinder fitting standard M30×1.5 valves (six adapters included), and reviewers confirm the under-30dB motor claim — quieter than most rival TRVs, tado's included, so it won't disturb sleep.
In Home Assistant
| Control | Type | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Climate | Climate | Target temperature and heat/off mode via the Matter Thermostat cluster; hvac_action is not a reliable demand signal over Matter. |
| Temperature | Sensor | On-device ambient temperature reading, exposed separately from the climate entity via Matter's Temperature Measurement cluster. |
| Valve position | Sensor (Zigbee mode only) | Percentage valve-opening reported through ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT when paired to an Aqara hub; not exposed over Matter/Thread. |
| Battery | Sensor (Zigbee mode only) | AA battery level reporting available via Zigbee; not currently exposed over Matter/Thread. |
| External temperature sensor link | Config (Zigbee mode only) | Binds an external Aqara temperature/humidity sensor as the climate reference instead of the TRV's own internal probe — a Zigbee-only feature. |
Over Matter, Home Assistant's python-matter-server only surfaces a climate entity and the built-in temperature sensor for the W600 — no valve-opening percentage, external-sensor linking, or native schedule, because Matter's Thermostat cluster doesn't carry those Aqara-specific attributes. That mirrors a documented pattern across other Matter TRVs (tado X, TP-Link's KE100/KH100), where the cluster only defines heat/off modes and lacks a running-state signal, so hvac_action tends to read 'heating' any time the valve isn't in anti-freeze/off rather than reflecting real demand — extrapolated from those other Matter TRVs, not yet separately confirmed for the W600. If those missing attributes matter, flipping the device to Zigbee mode behind an Aqara hub (ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT) restores valve position, external-sensor pairing and Aqara's own scheduling, at the cost of losing hub-free Thread operation.
