The Echo Show 16 is Amazon's new 16-inch smart display, announced on 28 October 2026 at $499.99 in the US, with shipping from late December. Amazon has not given a UK price or date. For Home Assistant users it is an Alexa screen, controlled only through a cloud integration, not a local dashboard.
What has changed with the Echo Show 16?
According to Amazon's announcement, the Echo Show 16 has a 16-inch full HD screen with 10% more viewing area than the Echo Show 15 and a body about 40% thinner. A Nanomatte version cuts glare by over 90%. The standard model is $499.99 and the Nanomatte model $569.99, with $100 off for preorders. A stand costs $69.99 and a swivel-and-tilt stand $124.99.
Shipping starts later this year; Android Authority puts it in the second half of December. Amazon says some features need Alexa+, which is included with Prime.
Why does the Echo Show 16 matter for Home Assistant users?
Yes, but only as an Alexa device, not as a Home Assistant display. Home Assistant's Alexa Devices integration lists Echo Show as supported and exposes speak and announce notifications, media player, Do Not Disturb, timers and alarms. It is classed as cloud polling, sensor data refreshes every five minutes by default, and setup needs an authenticator-app MFA. The page does not document camera entities, so assume the 13MP camera stays inside Amazon's ecosystem.
Amazon's announcement does not say whether the Show 16 acts as a Zigbee, Thread or Matter hub, so do not plan around it. The same week's Echo Dot is the model pitched as a hub; see our new Echo Dot hub explainer for what that means for Home Assistant.
When is the Echo Show 16 coming to the UK?
There is no confirmed UK date or price. Earlier UK coverage of the October range, summarised in our Echo Dot article, did not list the Show 16 among the products reported for the UK. Alexa+ has also only reached UK users through invites; see Alexa+ early access in the UK. Treat any UK figure you see as a currency conversion, not an Amazon price.
Should you wait for the Echo Show 16 or buy something else?
If you want an Alexa display now, the existing Echo Show 15 is the model you can actually buy in the UK, and its price will likely fall as the new one arrives. If your goal is a wall panel for Home Assistant, none of the Show range is the right tool: a Home Assistant dashboard on a dedicated tablet gives local control without Amazon's cloud. Wait for the Show 16 only if you want Fire TV, the larger Nanomatte screen and Alexa+ in one device, and are happy to hold off until Amazon confirms UK pricing.
Frequently asked questions
- How much will the Echo Show 16 cost in the UK?
- Amazon has not announced UK pricing for the Echo Show 16. The only official prices are US ones: $499.99 for the standard model and $569.99 for the Nanomatte glare-reducing version, with $100 off for preorders. UK retail prices for Echo devices have often been higher than a straight currency conversion once VAT is added, so do not treat a converted figure as a prediction. Earlier UK reporting on Amazon's October range also did not list the Show 16 among the products expected here. If you want one, check Amazon.co.uk for a listing before assuming it will launch, and compare it with the Echo Show 15, which is already on sale in the UK and is likely to be discounted as the newer model approaches.
- Can Home Assistant use the Echo Show 16 camera?
- Not as far as Home Assistant's documentation shows. The Alexa Devices integration lists Echo Show as a supported device, but its page describes notify, media player, sensor, switch and event entities and does not mention camera entities or screen control. Camera features such as Visual ID, night vision and Live View are delivered through Amazon's own Alexa app, and the integration is cloud polling rather than local. It also requires authenticator-app multi-factor authentication to set up. The practical answer is that the Show 16's 13MP camera is an Alexa feature, not a Home Assistant one. If you need a camera feeding automations, a dedicated camera with ONVIF or RTSP support remains the more dependable route, because it can be used locally without Amazon's cloud.
- Is the Echo Show 16 a Zigbee, Thread or Matter hub?
- Amazon's announcement does not say. The new Echo Dot, announced alongside it, is the device described as a Zigbee, Thread and Matter hub, while the Show 16 is presented as a display with a camera, Fire TV, Omnisense sensors and the Alexa Home Map for viewing connected devices. Without confirmation, assume the Show 16 controls devices already paired elsewhere rather than acting as a radio hub itself. Even if it does add a hub, Amazon has not announced a local interface that would let Home Assistant use that radio as a coordinator, so a Home Assistant user should still plan around a dedicated USB coordinator. Check Amazon's full specification page once the UK listing appears.
›How we researched this
Claims in this article are checked against primary sources — manufacturer specifications, official documentation, Which? research, Ofgem guidance, or gov.uk — rather than forum threads or video reviews. Where the author has direct hands-on experience with a product (most Home Assistant, Zigbee, and home-networking gear is running in his own homelab), that is stated explicitly in the text.
For categories outside that personal setup — such as boilers, heat pumps, and other areas that are traditionally a heating engineer's domain — verdicts are built from cross-referenced manufacturer data, published lab results, and vetted expert and owner reviews rather than a claim of personal hands-on testing. See the editorial policy for the full methodology.
