Our verdict

A budget Roborock with strong suction (10,000Pa) and a charge-only dock: no self-emptying, no mop washing, so you empty the bin every few runs and wash the pad yourself. Reviews praise the suction and carpet handling and are less impressed by mopping, with some app glitches and a fiddly setup reported. For Home Assistant it works through the Roborock integration, but the HA docs warn that newer Q-series variants can use a different protocol and fail to connect, so check the community before relying on it. Amazon's price has swung hard; around £120 is the sort of price that makes it the cheapest sensible way in.

What can Home Assistant control on the Roborock Q7 M5?

ControlTypeWhat it does
VacuumVacuumStart, pause, dock and fan speed control.
Mop mode / intensitySelectChoose mop behaviour and water intensity where the model supports it.
ConsumablesSensorTime left on brushes and filter for maintenance reminders.

Uses the core Roborock integration (local polling preferred, cloud account required, 30-second polling). The HA docs say Q-series support varies and that newer Q variants may use a different protocol and fail to connect, with partial local control possible through Matter, so this budget model is a bigger gamble than the S, QV, Qrevo or Saros series, which are listed as fully supported. Map data and routines always go through the cloud.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Roborock Q7 M5 work with Home Assistant locally?
Partly. The Roborock Q7 M5 connects to Home Assistant through the manufacturer's cloud integration (roborock), which relies on the Roborock cloud. It works in Home Assistant, but commands go via the internet and stop working during an outage of your connection or the Roborock service.
Which protocol does the Roborock Q7 M5 use, and do I need a hub?
The Roborock Q7 M5 uses Wi-Fi. To pair it with Home Assistant you need no hub — it joins your Wi-Fi network directly. Roborock's own hub is not required when you integrate through the manufacturer's cloud integration (roborock).
