The best Z-Wave smart plug with genuine UK BS1363 pins — accurate energy monitoring, S2 security and a colour LED ring that shows load at a glance. At £42-55 depending on retailer it costs more than the Zigbee energy plugs we cover elsewhere, and the premium only pays off if you're already on Z-Wave: every Wall Plug repeats the mesh, extending range to door locks and battery sensors further from the hub. It's also a chunky ~56mm cube that can overhang and block a neighbouring socket on a double gang outlet — check clearance first. S2 security is the right call here, since unlike a battery sensor this thing is mains-connected and always on.

Zigbee JS reports power/energy on a threshold basis rather than continuously — under roughly 5W the plug only pushes an update every ~0.2W change, so a small load like an idle phone charger can sit un-refreshed in HA for a noticeable stretch. That's actually usable: treat "no power delta for N minutes while the switch is on" as a finished-charging-cycle signal, which only works because of this plug's specific low-load reporting granularity — coarser Wi-Fi plugs don't report finely enough for the same trick.
