Best-value Zigbee energy-monitoring plug for UK sockets: pairs straight into Zigbee2MQTT or ZHA (no eWeLink hub needed), reports power/energy, and doubles as a solid Zigbee router. The Type G version of the well-reviewed S60 series. Usually a couple of pounds cheaper than TP-Link's Tapo P110, and for a Zigbee mesh already anchored by a Home Assistant dongle it's the better buy — no cloud dependency, no separate WiFi credentials, and one more repeater strengthening the network. If you don't already run Zigbee, the Tapo's plug-and-play WiFi setup and app are simpler. Best fit: monitoring always-on appliances (fridges, routers, AV kit) where local, hub-free readings matter more than a slick app.

Zigbee2MQTT exposes a switch plus current, voltage, power and three separate energy counters (today/yesterday/month) — but a known Z2M discovery bug means all the energy sensors show up in HA labelled identically as "Energy" and need manual renaming. Use the live power sensor with a for-duration trigger to flag an appliance left idling (e.g. a kettle drawing standby wattage) rather than relying on a fixed schedule.
