The cheapest name-brand smart plug you can buy in the UK — around £8 and rock-solid on the local tplink integration. No energy monitoring, so spend the extra couple of pounds on a Tapo P110 if you want power stats. At just 51×72×40mm it's genuinely compact, sitting close to the wall so it won't block the second socket on a UK double gang — a real problem with bulkier smart plugs. The 13A/2990W rating covers kettles and heaters if you need switched high-draw sockets. It's rated for indoor use only, 0-35°C, with a sliding safety cover over the socket — no IP rating for anything damp like a shed or greenhouse.

HA's tplink integration reaches the P100 locally via the KLAP handshake mandatory on current firmware, but setup still requires entering TP-Link cloud credentials once and enabling Third-Party Compatibility in the Tapo app first — skip that toggle and you get a credential-rejection failure, a recurring report on the integration's issue tracker. Being 2.4GHz-only, it's also a frequent victim of router band-steering on mesh/dual-band networks that push devices onto a 5GHz-only SSID, which makes the initial pairing fail silently rather than throw a clear error. Locally it only exposes a switch — no schedule, away-mode, or LED-indicator entities, those stay app/cloud-only. With no timer of its own, the cleanest use is as a dumb relay inside a bigger automation chain, e.g. switched by a kettle-boiled or leaving-home script rather than configured directly on the device.
