The default UK smart plug: cheap, everywhere, and HA's core tplink integration polls it locally with per-plug energy stats that are accurate enough for tumble-dryer automations. Buy multipacks — the per-unit price drops well under £10.

Total energySensor (kWh)Meant to be an all-time total — currently mirrors "today" due to an open bug

HA's core tplink integration polls locally every 5 seconds and adds today/total energy sensors alongside the switch — but an open HA GitHub issue confirms both counters reset to zero at midnight, so "total" never actually accumulates long-term. For real cost tracking, feed the current-consumption sensor into a utility meter helper rather than trusting the plug's own total. Note Matter pairing drops energy monitoring entirely — stick with the native integration.
