Prefer Zigbee mesh or don't want another Wi-Fi device on the router? The SONOFF S60ZBTPG matches it on price and load rating without eating Wi-Fi bandwidth. Need to monitor a whole extension lead instead of one socket, look at the Tapo P304M power strip. For a single always-on appliance on Wi-Fi, the P110 is still the easiest, cheapest option.

HA's core tplink integration polls locally every 5 seconds and adds today/total energy sensors alongside the switch — but an open HA GitHub issue confirms both counters reset to zero at midnight, so "total" never actually accumulates long-term. For real cost tracking, feed the current-consumption sensor into a utility meter helper rather than trusting the plug's own total. Note Matter pairing drops energy monitoring entirely — stick with the native integration.
