The big brother to the X1i — a 6.9-inch panel that's genuinely pleasant to glance at, and the extra RAM copes better with a real dashboard than the smaller unit does. It's still fundamentally a light switch with a screen glued on: the relay talks to Home Assistant locally, but the dashboard is a browser you configure yourself, not built by the integration. At 87x178x36mm fitted, it's chunkier than most back boxes expect — check depth first. The base is swappable too: standard switches one circuit, but the optional 2-output power base lets the same screen control two separate loads. Keep layouts simple — cameras and animations show the tablet hardware's limits.
What can Home Assistant control on the Shelly Wall Display X2i?
| Control | Type | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Relay switch | Switch | The onboard 5A/240V relay, controlling whatever light or appliance circuit is wired to it |
| Display media player | Media player (firmware 2.2+) | Volume/mute control for the panel's built-in speaker |
| Ambient light | Sensor | Onboard light-level sensor, usable for scene automations independent of the wired relay |
| Dashboard kiosk view | Device-side browser setting, not an HA entity | Point the panel at your HA instance URL to full-screen your existing dashboard — configured on the device, not created by the integration |
The shelly integration adds the relay as a local switch entity over RPC (HTTP/WebSocket), fully local with no cloud dependency. One thing worth knowing before wiring an automation to it: reviewers report the built-in temperature sensor reads 3-4°C high due to the display's own self-heating, so use a separate temperature sensor for any climate automation rather than this one. A useful automation instead: since the panel exposes a light-level sensor entity, use it to trigger an 'evening mode' scene when ambient room light drops, independent of whatever the relay itself controls.

Frequently asked questions
- Does the Shelly Wall Display X2i work with Home Assistant locally?
- Yes. The Shelly Wall Display X2i is controlled locally in Home Assistant through a certified "Works with Home Assistant" integration (shelly), so it keeps working if your internet connection or the Shelly cloud goes down. Control and state updates stay on your own network.

- The Shelly Wall Display X2i uses Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. To pair it with Home Assistant you need no hub — it joins your Wi-Fi network directly; or a Bluetooth adapter on your Home Assistant host or an ESPHome Bluetooth proxy. Shelly's own hub is not required when you integrate through a certified "Works with Home Assistant" integration (shelly).
