The trade-grade choice for anyone with legacy Danfoss valve bodies: it fits RA, RAV, RAVL and M30x1.5 threads out of the box, so older UK systems with mismatched radiators don't need creative adapter hunting. At around £49 it splits the difference between the £26 SONOFF TRVZB and the £60 Bosch Radiator Thermostat II — build quality and the two-year AA battery life (versus SONOFF's roughly six months) land closer to Bosch, though Bosch still edges it on precision (±0.5°C) and quieter running. Buy this specifically for Danfoss valve bodies or where the wide adapter range matters; otherwise the SONOFF or Bosch are simpler choices.

The climate entity exposes a valve-opening percentage and running state separately from the setpoint, so you can watch actual valve position rather than inferring it from temperature deltas. External sensor binding runs through two paired attributes: a room-sensor input pushed from HA, plus a covered flag that flips the head from Auto Offset Mode (blends its own head-mounted reading with the external one) to Room Sensor Mode (external sensor drives control alone) — older firmware shipped without the covered flag at all, so it's worth confirming firmware before relying on pure external control. Load balancing isn't automatic: a room-mean load value has to be fed by a periodic automation averaging every valve's own load estimate, otherwise multiple Allys on one room simply compete for boiler capacity independently. ZHA users specifically report sluggish setpoint response because the stock ZHA quirk skips a bitmask Danfoss's spec calls for on setpoint writes — Zigbee2MQTT sends it correctly, a real point in favour of that stack for this device.
