The smart radiator valve to buy if you already run Thread, because it is a plain Matter-over-Thread device: it pairs into Home Assistant's Matter integration and stays local, with no vendor cloud in the loop. It is a single-room valve, not a whole-house system, so you need a Thread border router (a Home Assistant Green, Apple TV or HomePod mini will do) and you will build the scheduling and window-open logic in HA yourself. It takes two AA batteries and ships with Danfoss RA, RAV and RAVL adapters, which covers a lot of UK radiators. Be aware of mixed owner reports: some people run them flawlessly, others see units dropping offline, and one long-term reviewer lost two after a firmware update, so don't buy a dozen before you've tested one.
What can Home Assistant control on the Eve Thermo (Matter, 5th gen)?
| Control | Type | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Target temperature | Climate | Set point for the radiator, exposed as a Matter thermostat. |
| HVAC mode | Selector | Heat/off for the valve. |
| Battery | Sensor | Battery level from the two AA cells. |
Pairs through HA's core Matter integration over Thread as a climate entity; there is no separate Eve integration to install. The Thermo is not on Home Assistant's Works with Home Assistant certified list (only Eve's door/window sensor and energy outlet were named in the April 2025 announcement), so treat support as standard Matter thermostat behaviour. Window detection is advertised by Eve but I could not confirm how or whether it surfaces in HA, so pair an Eve Door & Window sensor or any contact sensor to your own automation. Owner reports on stability are mixed.

Frequently asked questions
- Does the Eve Thermo (Matter, 5th gen) work with Home Assistant locally?
- Yes. The Eve Thermo (Matter, 5th gen) is controlled locally in Home Assistant through a built-in Home Assistant core integration (matter), so it keeps working if your internet connection or the Eve cloud goes down. Control and state updates stay on your own network.

Eve's own hub is not required when you integrate through a built-in Home Assistant core integration (matter).
