The classic Tuya budget TRV — Amazon UK's price has climbed to around £40, roughly £14 more than the Sonoff TRVZB it competes with, so it's no longer the budget pick it once was. Zigbee2MQTT supports it directly (ignore the listing's 'requires MOES hub' line), with window-open detection and a boost button the Sonoff lacks. But this is unmistakably budget Tuya hardware: the plastic housing and LED display feel cheap next to the TRVZB's build, and the temperature-offset firmware quirk shows it. Two AA batteries are rated for roughly 1.5 years, in line with the class. Buy this for the boost/child-lock features; buy the TRVZB if you just want the most reliable radiator valve for less money.

Zigbee2MQTT exposes window state as a dedicated binary sensor rather than folding it into the climate entity's state, so automations can react to a window event independently of whatever preset or setpoint is active. The temperature calibration offset doesn't get echoed back by the TRV's own temperature report when changed — the firmware just keeps transmitting the old figure, which earlier users mistook for calibration doing nothing until Zigbee2MQTT added client-side recomputation so the corrected value shows immediately. Because the device's own window-open cutoff only pauses that single valve, a more useful automation reads the window sensor to also flip a room's supplementary heater or fire a notification if a window's been open more than 10 minutes with the TRV still idle — coordination the on-device logic doesn't provide across a multi-radiator room.
